On Page Search Engine Optimization

On Page SEO

The top complaint of website owners is their web pages cannot be found in the first pages of the search engines for their keywords. On page search engine optimization is a primary way to get targeted customers to your page. With the right amount of smart work, you can find your pages at or near the top of the search engine page results.

What should you do for on page SEO?

Some of the things you should pay attention to are keywords, title tag, your page description, H1 and H2 tags, keyword density, and keyword placement.

For your keywords, which can be phrases, you may have a very difficult time getting the top ranking for the top keywords i.e., "real estate brokers" causing you to have a very difficult time beating out the competition. You're better off going for the secondary keywords or keyword phrases such as "real estate broker is in Long Island New York." This makes the keyword phrase more focused, and more likely that you will find that your competition is not optimized for that phrase.

For your title tag rather than have "Welcome to John's real estate brokerage service.", you would be better off making it "Real estate broker in Long Island New York - John's Real Estate Brokerage Service". That way, both your visitor, and the search engine can better understand what your page is about.

Your page description should be to the targeted customer something like a very short ad. An example might be "Find your dream home in Long Island New York through John's Real Estate Brokerage Service". That is telling your visitor and the search engines why they should come to your page.

H1 and H2 tags tell the search engines that what you are putting between the tags is important in they should pay attention. You should only have one H1 tag per page.

Each page should only have one or two primary keywords or keyword phrases that you are focusing on. Keyword density, which is the percentage of times a keyword is used on a page should typically be in the three to eight percent range. You should not stuff keywords in your page, because the search engines could see that as spam.

Keywords should be used early and often on your page, preferably in the first paragraph and should also be used in the last paragraph.
